Window Tinting FAQ
Straight answers about film types, Texas legal shades, cost, timing and warranty. Anything not covered here — just call or text.
How much does window tinting cost in San Antonio?
Price depends on the vehicle or home, the number and size of windows, and the film you choose. Because every job is quoted individually, we keep it simple: send a few details through the quote form or call and we will give you a free, no-obligation number.
What is the difference between ceramic and carbon film?
Ceramic film uses ceramic nanoparticles to reject solar heat without metallic layers, so it stays clear, never interferes with phones or GPS, and will not turn purple. Carbon film is a step below on heat rejection but costs less. We install ceramic film as our standard for its performance and durability.
How long does window tint last?
Quality ceramic film installed correctly lasts many years — typically the life of the vehicle. Every installation from Precision Film Works is backed by a lifetime warranty against bubbling, peeling, cracking, delamination and purple fading.
What window tint shades are legal in Texas?
Texas law requires front side windows to keep at least 25% visible light transmission when the film and glass are measured together, and the windshield can only be filmed above the AS-1 line or the top five inches. Rear side windows are exempt. Our Texas window tint law page has the details with the official source.
How long does an installation take?
Most vehicles are done in a few hours at our shop. A typical home takes one to two days depending on the number of windows and access. We book by appointment so your job gets full attention.
Can you tint over existing window film?
We do not install over failing film. If your old tint is bubbling, peeling or purple, we remove it first so the new ceramic film looks and performs the way it should. If the existing film is healthy, we can match or replace individual windows.
How soon can I roll my windows down after tinting?
Plan on leaving the windows up for three to five days while the film cures. We give you simple aftercare guidance before you leave, and the same rules apply to cleaning: wait about a week, then use a soft cloth and ammonia-free cleaner.
Does residential window film actually lower energy bills?
Reducing solar heat through the glass lowers the load on your air conditioner, and that usually shows up on summer energy bills. Exact savings depend on your home, glass and sun exposure — we will give you an honest assessment.
Will window tint void my car or window warranty?
Quality films installed correctly do not damage glass. For homes, we can explain what to say to your window manufacturer if a glass warranty claim ever comes up. For vehicles, tint does not affect your car's warranty.
Do you come to my home for residential tinting?
Yes. Residential film is installed on site at your home anywhere in our service area. Automotive work is done at our San Antonio shop, where we can control the environment for a clean install.
